The Roads and Stormwater Unit oversee the construction, rehabilitation, and maintenance of the municipal road network and associated stormwater systems. This includes both surfaced and gravel roads, as well as drainage infrastructure designed to mitigate flooding and protect municipal assets. The unit aims to ensure safe mobility, improved road conditions, and resilient stormwater solutions that support economic activity and community accessibility. The Unit undertakes routine inspections for emergency repairs after heavy rains or seasonal damage and for preparation of proactive and reactive maintenance plans. Furthermore, the unit collaborates with mining houses, provincial, national government and SANRAL on major road projects and maintenance within the jurisdiction of Gamagara Local Municipality.

Challenges and Mitigations on Roads and Stormwater Projects

Rapid Deterioration of Roads

 Gravel Roads in Townships and Rural Areas

 Poorly Designed or Aging Road Infrastructure
