The Electricity Unit manages the operation, maintenance, and expansion of the municipal electricity distribution network under the legislative mandate of the Electricity Regulation Act No. 4 of 2006. Responsibilities include electrical reticulation, substations, transformers, street lighting, and system upgrades that improve efficiency and reliability. The unit is committed to reducing downtime, promoting safety in compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act, ensuring all infrastructure and operations adhere to national grid codes and NRS safety standards, and expanding access to electricity in line with community needs and the objectives of the Municipal Systems Act. We actively partner with national programs like INEP to enable new household connections and with EEDSM to fund energy-efficient initiatives.
