CENTER OF WHAT WE DO
SERVING THE PEOPLE
CLEAN GOVERNANCE
Kathu,‘the town under the trees’, came into being because of Iscor’s iron ore mining activity in the Kalahari. .
This is the only town lying at the foot of the Langeberg; Olifantshoek is a farming town close to two game ranches on the Namakwari Route..
Dibeng started off as a small settlement on the banks of the Gamagara River which provided water for the small-holdings that run the full length of town.
Sesheng is located to the west of Kathu and was initially planned as, a high density residential area for mine workers, without families of any social structure.
Mayor: Gamagara Local Municipality
Councillor D. Moyo
Admitting and acknowledging that the 2016/2017 was a very challenging year for us at Gamagara Local Municipality, resilience and commitment saw us through. We saw illegal land grab and marches against the municipality that are not related to service delivery amongst others. Not only negative things happened, we also experienced positive attributions. We had a stable interface between Political and administration which provided seamless improvement of good governance and efficient service delivery. Like I mentioned before that even though we had marches, none of the marches were service delivery related rather were politically motivated. This was evidenced by the emergence of Forums which evolved from business to political in nature.
The Gamagara Council has always been committed to its core business value s and principles to deliver better services to all its residents as enshrined in the Constitution of the Republic of South Africa and further affirmed by the Municipal Systems Act and Municipal Finance Management Act.

Update on the outstanding debt owed to bulk suppliers and Settlement Incentive (s) on the outstanding debt owed to the municipality
As reported last week the municipality has rolled out a new system in line with the new regulations rolled out by National Treasury for Municipal Standard Chart of Accounts (MSCOA). Please note that this change is not unique to Gamagara municipality and all 257 municipalities were forced to comply with this regulations by 01 July 2017 otherwise this was to be regarded as financial misconduct. This migration caused serious challenges; especially with billing, as the municipality could not bill from July 2017 to September 2017. As a results the municipality could not pay the bulk suppliers; i.e. Eskom and Sedibeng Water, for the periods mentioned above as the consumers were not paying their accounts as a results of not receiving accounts.
